Be Inspired… for Autumn

Seasonal inspirations for the cooler months

Autumnal glamping…

Glamping is a brilliant way to absorb the nature of Autumn. Open fires, star gazing, bird watching…   all the wonders of camping but with more home comforts! We love the look of Tread Lightly Glamping in the heart of the New Forest. They offer beautifully furnished tents, private en-suite composting toilet and shower and your own fully equipped camp kitchen including BBQ firepit – and dogs are welcome!

How d’you like them apples…

Apple fans, your time is now. Not many of us have the time or space to grown our own, but we can do the next best thing and pick our own at local orchards, or just buy seasonal British varieties wherever you shop. This round-up of apple recipes from Olive magazine will definitely get your mouth watering. And if you have an apple-loving dog, try these tasty-looking dog treats.

Games night…

Home entertaining is trending right now which, quite frankly, is fine by us! But when we don’t fancy hosting a full-on dinner party we’ve been trying out grown-ups’ games nights. Our top recommendations include the interactive quiz game Linkee and imaginative role-play game One Night Ultimate Werewolf – perfect for Halloween. And for a fun take on a true classic, it has to be Dog Bingo!

Get gardening…

If you’re a fan of Spring flowers, it’s time to start planning ahead with some bulb planting. September and October are the months to plant daffodils, crocus, hyacinth, alliums and tulips. For more immediate gratification, put in hardy bedding plants for Autumn colour – we like cyclamen, winter pansies and purple sage. There are lots of excellent gardening tips for Autumn at the National Trust website, here.

Woodland cycling...

Woods and forests across the UK will soon be ablaze with Autumn colours and this year we are planning to explore them on two wheels. Cycling on tracks and trails through the woods is a perfect Autumn activity but somewhat more challenging if you want to take the dog. We’re going to try out the Tarigs back pack (wish us luck..!) but would love to hear from you if you have recommendations for carriages or other solutions!

Autumn watchlist...

Grab yourself some popcorn (and/or a Pumpkin Spice Latte), snuggle down under your favourite throw and tune in to some movies and TV shows that just seem to capture the essence of Autumn. Our watchlist this season includes classics Dead Poet’s Society and You’ve Got Mail, as well as spooky Halloween viewing like Hocus Pocus and Sleepy Hollow, and a re-watch of last year’s quirky, atmospheric Knives Out.
