New beginnings

Let’s embrace this new season with a Spring in our step!

Fashion Refresh…

We’re not going to lie. We fully embraced loungewear during lockdown. But now the sun is beginning to come out (both literally and metaphorically) and it’s time to look at a wardrobe refresh. We’re pleased to see wide-leg trousers on lots of lists for Spring/Summer 2021 (pictured here: Baukjen’s Rhode Pant). Ditto pastels – always a winner when paired with denim. We might even try puffed sleeves, tipped for this season by Cosmopolitan. Meanwhile the couture experts at Vogue are pitching monochrome, bralettes and floaty maxi dresses among their must-wears for 2021. Can you guess which two of those we are buying into?

Out and about…

Anyone else starting to get itchy feet? Thank goodness that from April we are going to be able to start moving around a bit more freely and seeing more of friends and family. We loved going through this slideshow from Country and Town House magazine with inspiration for places to visit in Spring all over the UK. Lots of useful links to get more info and gorgeous images too! (This is one of ours, from Lyme Regis a few years ago, with the oh-so-handsome Fudge!)

Food for Spring…

We were heartened to read that organic food sales have soared in the past year (find out more here). Buying local and buying seasonal are always excellent choices, as is the grow-your-own option. But if you don’t have the space – or the time – for a full vegetable patch how about starting your own Micro Kitchen Garden? It’s not all about herbs – you can also grow salad leaves, spring onions, chillis and celery (pictured). Lots of ideas and links to indoor gardening kits here.

Canine ‘Cooking’…

Easter is coming! And with it comes the annual challenge of keeping chocolate eggs away from your dog – particularly tricky if you have children demanding an Easter Egg Hunt. This year we’re going to try our hand at homemade Dog Friendly Easter Eggs. This recipe on The Lady website looks nice and simple (and we love the photo!). Hide them all over the garden and see how long your Doggy Easter Egg Hunt lasts – will it be minutes, or mere seconds..?!

Escape into a book...

There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for 2021. But – let’s face it – most of us are still stuck in our homes and gardens for much of the time right now. So a bit of escapism via a good book is always welcome. Here at The Lounging Hound HQ we can’t wait for Sally Rooney’s Beautiful World, Where Are You (coming in September) and Lisa Taddeo’s Animal (July). On our current TBR pile – and out in paperback in April – is A Theatre For Dreamers by Polly Samson. Have a look at Waterstone’s picks for the year ahead.
